A news video team that works to your deadline
We are a small production company in Exeter, shooting, editing and delivering news video for television and online outlets since 2014.

How curtainvoxa came to be
curtainvoxa was founded in Exeter in 2014 by people who had spent years in newsrooms and saw how often good footage arrived late or badly prepared. We set out to close that gap with a crew that thinks like an editor.
In the early years we took whatever the region produced: road closures, court steps, weather damage, council meetings. Each job taught us something about where time is lost, from loading the car to naming files, and we built our routines around removing those delays.
Today the team is four core people: a head of production, a senior camera operator, a lead editor and a field reporter. Because they work together every week, a brief rarely needs repeating, and the editor already knows how the camera operator frames a shot.
Our clients are television producers, news editors and online publishers, from regional programmes to small independent outlets. Some book us for a single breaking story, others for regular studio bulletins or interview recording.
We have also come to value the quieter work of helping newsrooms organise ingest, approvals and archives. A tidy workflow often saves more minutes than a faster camera, and small teams tend to feel the difference first.
Throughout, we keep to a plain rule: say what we can do, do it, and tell you straight away if something changes. Producers have enough to manage without chasing us for updates.
The practical habits behind each job
Our way of working comes from a few repeated habits rather than grand promises. They are the same whether we are covering a fire, recording a studio interview or advising a newsroom on its archive, and they are what clients tend to notice first.
Ready to leave quickly
Kit is checked and packed between jobs, so a crew can head out as soon as the brief is agreed. That preparation saves more time than driving faster ever could.
Checked before it is sent
Names, places and captions are confirmed with the reporter before delivery. If something is uncertain, we flag it rather than guess, so your team can decide.
One team, start to finish
Camera operators, editors and reporters work together on the same story. Fewer handovers mean fewer misunderstandings and a package that matches the intended angle.
Kit suited to conditions
Handheld for fast-moving scenes, tripod for interviews, and lighting for dim locations. We choose equipment to suit the story, not the other way round.
Organised files and archives
Rushes are named, stored and logged so they can be found again. Our workflow advice helps small newsrooms do the same with their own material.
Careful with people on camera
Public incidents often involve people at a difficult moment. Our crews are respectful, explain what they are filming and stay calm on location.
What we stand for
-
01
Speed
We treat a deadline as part of the brief. Planning ahead, sending footage in stages and keeping editors close to the camera all help a story reach you sooner.
-
02
Accuracy
Getting it right matters more than getting it first. We confirm details, label material clearly and correct anything we find wrong before you broadcast it.
-
03
Clarity
Good sound, steady shots and straightforward graphics let viewers follow the story. The same applies to how we talk to clients about timings and costs.
-
04
Care
News involves real people, and we keep that in mind on location and in the edit. We work considerately and aim never to add to anyone's distress.
